Plan Your Trip
Welcome to the Western Vistas Historic Byway…..the first Historic Byway in Kansas!
102 miles of natural and human history – a perfect package for you to open, all wrapped up in a variety of landscapes and seasonal beauty.
Centrally located between Denver and Topeka, off I-70 at exits 70 and 76, and highways US 83 and US 40, Oakley (in Logan County) is in the middle of the Western Vistas Historic Byway. With almost 200 hotel/motels rooms and 2 RV/camping parks, we can accommodate your overnight needs and provide a “base camp” for your byway tour. If you want a more rustic adventure, hit the grocery store, pick up some food and drink, fill the fuel tank and stay overnight at the historical Logan House Hotel on the western portion of the byway in Russell Springs. The nine room bed and “bring your own breakfast” is a perfect place to sit on the porch and take in the stars after a day on the byway. Visit www.visitoakley.com for Logan County lodging information.
Or, stop along the southern portion of the byway in Scott County and choose a quaint motel, bed & breakfast, or a rustic cabin at Lake Scott State Park. And if you’re traveling with pets, hunting dogs or horses, be sure to check out available lodging opportunities for these special friends. Visit www.visitscottcity.com for Scott County lodging information.
Buses, organizations, clubs and groups, large and small, are welcome to stop and visit these, and all the sites along the way to your final destination. If the Byway is your destination, we can assist you with your trip planning needs. We will work with you to create a tour itinerary for a half day, one day, or two or more days. We can also help arrange your overnight lodging and meal needs. Contact Oakley Tourism & Convention Board at 785-671-1000 or Scott City Travel & Tourism at 620-872-5612.
